सरला बिरला पब्लिक स्कूल, राँची में कक्षा 11वीं और 12वीं के विद्यार्थियों के लिए एक रोचक एवं व्यावहारिक कैरेक्टर डिजाइन कार्यशाला का आयोजन किया गया। इस कार्यशाला का उद्देश्य विद्यार्थियों को कैरेक्टर निर्माण, दृश्य कथाकथन तथा रचनात्मक डिजाइन की रोमांचक दुनिया से परिचित कराना था।
इस कार्यशाला का संचालन श्री गुरूशरण भामरा ने किया। वे नेशनल इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ डिजाइन (छप्क्) के पूर्व छात्र तथा फिल्म एवं वीडियो कम्युनिकेशन डिजाइन के क्षेत्र में प्रतिष्ठित विशेषज्ञ हैं। फिल्म, वीडियो प्रोडक्शन एवं विजुअल कम्युनिकेशन के क्षेत्र में 15 वर्षों से अधिक के अनुभव के साथ उन्होंने विद्यार्थियों को कहानी कहने और डिजाइन थिंकिंग की प्रक्रिया के माध्यम से कैरेक्टर डिजाइन की बारीकियों से अवगत कराया।
डिजाइन थिंकिंग के दृष्टिकोण के माध्यम से विद्यार्थियों ने कैरेक्टर डिजाइन के विभिन्न पहलुओं, व्यक्तित्व, रूप-रंग, भाव-भंगिमा, भावनाएँ, बॉडी लैंग्वेज तथा दृश्य पहचान को समझा। कार्यशाला को पूरी तरह व्यावहारिक एवं अनुभवात्मक बनाया गया, जिसमें विद्यार्थियों ने अपनी पसंद के कैरेक्टर स्वयं डिजाइन किए, उनके व्यक्तित्व एवं विशेषताओं की कल्पना की तथा उनके इर्द-गिर्द अपनी कहानी विकसित की।
विद्यार्थियों ने न केवल अपनी कल्पना को मौलिक कैरेक्टर डिजाइनों में परिवर्तित किया, बल्कि अपने द्वारा तैयार किए गए कैरेक्टर से जुड़ी कहानियाँ और कथानक भी प्रस्तुत किए। इस गतिविधि ने उन्हें यह समझने में सहायता की कि एक प्रभावशाली कैरेक्टर केवल एक चित्र नहीं होता, बल्कि वह भावनाओं, विचारों और कहानी को व्यक्त करने का सशक्त माध्यम बन सकता है।
कार्यशाला का एक महत्वपूर्ण पक्ष डिजाइन के क्षेत्र में उपलब्ध विविध करियर विकल्पों से विद्यार्थियों को परिचित कराना भी रहा। विद्यार्थियों को एनिमेशन और मोशन डिजाइन, ग्राफिक डिजाइन, इंटीरियर डिजाइन, फिल्म और वीडियो कम्युनिकेशन, विजुअल कम्युनिकेशन तथा डिजाइन के अन्य उभरते क्षेत्रों में उपलब्ध संभावनाओं की जानकारी दी गई। इससे विद्यार्थियों को यह समझने का अवसर मिला कि रचनात्मकता, तकनीक और कहानी कहने की कला का समन्वय भविष्य में विविध एवं आकर्षक करियर के द्वार खोल सकता है।

यह कार्यशाला रचनात्मकता, डिजाइन थिंकिंग, व्यावहारिक अधिगम, कहानी कहने की कला और करियर मार्गदर्शन का एक सुंदर संगम रही। इसने विद्यार्थियों को अधिक गहराई से देखने, स्वतंत्र रूप से कल्पना करने और उद्देश्यपूर्ण ढंग से सृजन करने के लिए प्रेरित किया।
Character Design Workshop at SBPS: Where Imagination Meets Visual Storytelling
Sarala Birla Public School, Ranchi, organised an engaging and hands-on Character Design Workshop for the students of Classes XI and XII, providing them with an exciting opportunity to explore the fascinating world of character creation, visual storytelling and creative design.
The enriching session was conducted by Mr. Gurusharan Bhamra, an alumnus of the National Institute of Design (NID) and an accomplished Film & Video Communication Designer with over 15 years of experience in film, video production and visual communication. His expertise in storytelling and Design Thinking made the workshop an inspiring and insightful learning experience for the students.
Following a Design Thinking approach, students explored the different dimensions of character design, including personality, appearance, expressions, emotions, body language and visual identity. The workshop was highly experiential, with students getting a hands-on opportunity to design characters of their choice, develop their unique personalities and create stories around the characters they conceptualised.
The students not only transformed their imagination into original character designs but also presented the stories and narratives associated with their creations, learning how a well-designed character can become a powerful medium of visual storytelling. The interactive activities encouraged them to observe, imagine, experiment and communicate their ideas with greater confidence.
An important aspect of the session was its focus on career opportunities in the creative and design industry. Students were introduced to diverse career pathways in areas such as Animation & Motion Design, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Film & Video Communication, Visual Communication and other emerging design disciplines. The interaction helped students understand how creativity, technology and storytelling can come together to create meaningful and rewarding career opportunities.
