सरला बिरला पब्लिक स्कूल, राँची में राज्य स्तरीय पाँच दिवसीय आवासीय शतरंज शिविर ‘चेकमेट चैम्पियंस’ का भव्य शुभारम्भ किया गया। इस विशेष प्रशिक्षण शिविर में राज्यभर के उदीयमान शतरंज खिलाड़ियों, प्रतिष्ठित शिक्षाविदों तथा शतरंज जगत की विशिष्ट हस्तियों ने सहभागिता की। शतरंज के इस खेल में रणनीतिक चिंतन, अनुशासन और उत्कृष्टता को प्रोत्साहित करने के उद्देश्य से 23 जून से 27 जून तक आयोजित यह शिविर युवा प्रतिभाओं को अनुभवी मार्गदर्शकों से सीखने तथा अपनी विश्लेषणात्मक क्षमता और निर्णय लेने के कौशल को सुदृढ़ करने का एक अनूठा अवसर प्रदान कर रहा है।
उद्घाटन समारोह का शुभारम्भ विशिष्ट अतिथियों के स्वागत एवं सम्मान समारोह के साथ हुआ। इसके पश्चात् दीप प्रज्वलन कर ज्ञान, विवेक, उत्कृष्टता और सतत प्रगति के मार्ग पर अग्रसर रहने का संदेश दिया गया। विद्यार्थियों द्वारा प्रस्तुत मधुर स्वागत-गान एवं भावपूर्ण सरस्वती वंदना ने समारोह में सांस्कृतिक गरिमा का समावेश करते हुए सम्पूर्ण वातावरण को प्रेरणादायी बना दिया। इस अवसर पर ग्रैंडमास्टर हिमांशु शर्मा उपस्थित रहे, जो हरियाणा के प्रथम ग्रैंडमास्टर होने के साथ-साथ अंतरराष्ट्रीय ख्याति प्राप्त शतरंज खिलाड़ी, प्रशिक्षक एवं फिडे ट्रेनर हैं। समारोह की गरिमा बढ़ाने वाले अन्य विशिष्ट अतिथियों में श्री अभिषेक दास, फिडे ट्रेनर एवं सहायक प्रशिक्षक, प्रोफेसर (डॉ.) गोपाल पाठक, महानिदेशक, सरला बिरला विश्वविद्यालय प्रोफेसर (डॉ.) जगनाथन चोक्कलिंगम, कुलपति, सरला बिरला विश्वविद्यालय, प्रोफेसर एस. बी. डांडिन, कुलसचिव, सरला बिरला विश्वविद्यालय, श्री मुखर्जी पी., नॉलेज रिसोर्स क्यूरेटर तथा श्री मनीष कुमार, मानद सचिव, ऑल झारखंड चेस एसोसिएशन एवं संयुक्त सचिव, ऑल इंडिया चेस फेडरेशन शामिल थे।
सभा को संबोधित करते हुए प्राचार्या श्रीमती मनीषा शर्मा ने सभी अतिथियों एवं प्रतिभागियों का हार्दिक स्वागत किया। उन्होंने शतरंज के शैक्षिक महत्व पर प्रकाश डालते हुए कहा कि यह खेल विद्यार्थियों में एकाग्रता, धैर्य, आलोचनात्मक चिंतन तथा विवेकपूर्ण निर्णय लेने की क्षमता विकसित करता है। उन्होंने कहा कि शतरंज केवल एक खेल नहीं, बल्कि बौद्धिक विकास, व्यक्तित्व निर्माण और आजीवन सीखने का एक सशक्त माध्यम है।
अपने संबोधन में प्रोफेसर (डॉ.) गोपाल पाठक ने विद्यार्थियों में रणनीतिक सोच और बौद्धिक अनुशासन विकसित करने के महत्व पर बल दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि शतरंज एक उत्कृष्ट शैक्षणिक खेल है, जो तार्किक चिंतन, समस्या-समाधान क्षमता और चुनौतियों का सामना करने की दृढ़ता को विकसित करता है। उन्होंने प्रतिभागियों को आत्मविश्वास के साथ चुनौतियों को स्वीकार करने तथा शतरंज की बिसात पर प्रत्येक चाल को सीखने, विश्लेषण करने और आगे बढ़ने के अवसर के रूप में देखने के लिए प्रेरित किया।
ग्रैंडमास्टर हिमांशु शर्मा ने अपने अनुभवों और विचारों को साझा करते हुए युवा प्रतिभागियों को समर्पण, दृढ़ता और निरंतर अभ्यास के माध्यम से उत्कृष्टता प्राप्त करने के लिए प्रेरित किया। शतरंज जगत में अपनी उल्लेखनीय यात्रा का उल्लेख करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि सफलता अनुशासित प्रयास, धैर्य और जीत के साथ-साथ हार से भी सीखने की क्षमता से प्राप्त होती है। उन्होंने नवोदित खिलाड़ियों को इस शिविर का भरपूर लाभ उठाने तथा ऐसी सोच विकसित करने के लिए प्रेरित किया, जिसमें सीखने को जीत के समान ही महत्व दिया जाए।
विशिष्ट अतिथियों की गरिमामयी उपस्थिति में शिविर का औपचारिक उद्घाटन किया गया, जिसके साथ पाँच दिनों के गहन प्रशिक्षण, मार्गदर्शन और सीखने की यात्रा का शुभारंभ हुआ। चेकमेट चैंपियंस उभरते हुए शतरंज खिलाड़ियों को एक प्रसिद्ध ग्रैंडमास्टर से सीखने का अमूल्य अवसर प्रदान करता है।
SBPS Inaugurates State-Level Five-Day Residential Chess Camp ‘Checkmate Champions’
Sarala Birla Public School, Ranchi, inaugurated ‘Checkmate Champions’, a State-Level Five-Day Residential Chess Camp scheduled from 23 to 27 June 2026, bringing together aspiring chess players, distinguished academicians and eminent personalities from the world of chess for an intensive learning and training experience. Designed to nurture strategic thinking, discipline and excellence in the royal game, the five-day residential camp provides a unique platform for young enthusiasts to learn from accomplished mentors and strengthen their analytical and decision-making skills.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with the welcoming and felicitation of the distinguished guests, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolising the pursuit of wisdom, knowledge and excellence. A melodious welcome song and a graceful Saraswati Vandana presented by the choir troupe added a cultural touch to the occasion and set an inspiring tone for the workshop.
The event witnessed the presence of Grandmaster Himanshu Sharma, the first Grandmaster from Haryana and an internationally acclaimed chess player, coach and FIDE Trainer. The Guest of Honour for the occasion was Prof. (Dr.) Gopal Pathak, Director General, Sarala Birla University. Other distinguished dignitaries present included Mr. Abhishek Das, FIDE Trainer and Assistant Coach; Prof. (Dr.) Jeganathan Chockalingam, Vice Chancellor, Sarala Birla University; Prof. S. B. Dandin, Registrar, Sarala Birla University; Mr. Mukherjee P., Knowledge Resource Curator and Mr. Manish Kumar, Honorary Secretary, All Jharkhand Chess Association and Joint Secretary, All India Chess Federation.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Ms. Manisha Sharma extended a warm welcome to the guests and participants. She highlighted the educational value of chess in fostering concentration, patience, critical thinking and sound decision-making. She remarked that chess is a game that initiated in India and is not merely a game but a powerful medium for intellectual growth, character development and lifelong learning.
In his address, the Guest of Honour, Prof. (Dr.) Gopal Pathak underscored the importance of developing strategic thinking and intellectual discipline among students.
